I was tempted at the time, but over £300 for a gaming system? That's what Sony forget, for most people it's a games machine first and foremost

It was the cheapest blu-ray player about at the time. Sony were also making a loss on each sale, so I wasn't complaining. My PS3 is much more than a gaming system, right now it's playing Battlestar Galactica for me, and sometimes it folds. The build quality is also far superior to the egg box, my first-gen PS3 is still going, everyone I know with an egg box has had at least one red ring of doom. What I also like about the PS3 is that everything is built-in, where-as the egg box seems to suffer from "add-on" syndrome, much like the PS2 did back in the day.

^ I know, but I've a feeling the forumites here aren't maybe as casual as some gamers - just look at those Wii sales

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This was supposed to be released 9th June, so I pre-ordered. A week after pre-ordering, it was pushed back to 29th June.
Now it's gonna be released on 25th August!

http://www.theplaystationetwork.com/wp- ... ectors.jpgThe original page:http://www.theplaystationetwork.com/ark ... s-edition/All sorts of funky holders I'm seriously considering ordering that special edition in the event of a possible purchase of a PS3 further down the line - I currently don't even have enough room for the Batarang either, but I f*cking want it... I could use all the smilies here as I'm going through all the emotions over this

Took a long time to click... but why don't you get it on the PC ? It also comes with (the same but cheaper) special edition: clicky. EDIT: Also, that's the first time i've seen that metal shaped box... the previous ones have all been what appears to be a funky cardboard one ¬.¬

^ I never really buy games for the PC (I'd need a new card for one thing). If Sony would sort their act out with the PS2 BC I'd buy the Slim come the time...

Ahhh, i know how you feel My ageing PC doesn't cope with any of the new games very well which is why i'm glad i bought a 360... sure it cost a bit and the games are more expensive, but i don't have to worry about whether my comp. can play it smoothly and i get to play with mates on XBL =]. As for Sony sorting out their act, i completely with that. Whilst the 360 is for when i'm at uni, my dad bought a PS3 for a home media server/blu ray player and tbh there aren't any exclusive games for the PS3 i'm that tempted to buy... i mean sure there's inFamous and MGS4, however i'm not exactly bothered whether or not i get them nor if i play them. However as a fan of action/adventure games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden i'm looking forward to the release of God of War 3 however haven't played the previous 2 so want to catch up. However the PS3 is an 80GB one which means it's not backwards compatible and thus Sony have lost out on the PS2 games i'd buy for it. /Shrug, hopefully the news that they patented techniques to run PS2 software on the Cell processor means they'll reintroduce the feature even if it's with a paid firmware update (some users probably don't care about the PS2 games so they could have a choice =]).

^ Strangely, it's the licenced games that are maintaining my interest in the PS3 (Batman, the upcoming AvP etc), and then the ones I can get cheap later on or now (The Darkness, Wolverine etc)... Not to mention my mate has a bunch of games he'd happily loan me Yes, I hope you're right about the firmware, I really do

Well... I think the demo has just cost me £40-60... I also didn't realise it but apparently PSN had the demo available by yesterday! . Anyhow, the combat system seems to work fairly well (although i did notice some clipping issues with Batman's cape lol) and is rather easy to pick up but i have reservations as to whether or not it's hard to master... especially since countering an opponent requires a simple button press when there's an indicator over the head of an enemy. Although i've heard that feature is disabled in the "Hard" difficulty so it could be rather fun . The combat didn't appear to be the focal point of the game which was good however the demo didn't really provide many opportunities for problem solving and the gist of it just seemed to be "go into detective mode, have a look around" which made it seem a bit basic/too easy. The main highlight of the game did appear to be when in a large room with multiple enemies, planning each takedown so as not to get caught/seen and promptly making an escape. The stealth aspect seems to work fairly well since the silent/instant take downs are most effective and whilst it *is* technically possible to rush in and use the freeflow combat, the enemies armed with guns can deal some serious damage. Another highlighted aspect of the stealth mechanic i took note of was that if you did the glide kick from the front, the enemy still notices you and guns into you as you take him down thus losing health. Obviously it's sounds expected but i remember quite a few other games essentially "locking in" a stealth kill so that enemies couldn't react to you and as such it appears as a nice touch imo. Another thing i guess i "liked" about it was the health system which, although unreal seemed to be rather fair. According to the little notes onscreen you get awarded health for finding secret areas and for taking down henchmen. Obviously not very realistic however it puts emphasis on doing things stealthily and not being noticed although even if you do rush in, if you're quick about it you can either break even, lose a small amount or even gain a small amount. IIRC Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker) voiced the Joker and he appears to do a rather good job of it. A little less nutcase/anarchistic than Heath Ledger/Dark Knight but still rather good imo. Anyhow, i'd definitely recommend the demo and am currently trying to justify to myself the cost of the collector's edition... since who doesn't want that Batarang ?

Great demo. Torn between the PS3 version for some resale value, or the PC version that has extra physx effects. Will get the demo from Steam and then decide methinks...
