Surprised given that ODDs are supposed to be slower than HDD which sre supposed to be slower than SSD/RAM. I wonder what performance is like on an SSD drive.
In other news, the girl on the disc is hot.
Yes, I bought the game. And a couple of pasties to go with it.

?? Yes. What else would I do with pasties? Played a few missions. Am happy with the shooting stuff. Maybe it's from playing CoD but I've got no issues with shooting people. The driving is horrendous and is one of the things that drove me away from GTA:4. Crap car control. Crap obstacles. Somehow if you have a collision, you will always come off worse irrespective of whose fault/speed/direction etc. Still nowhere near as fun as GTA:VC or SA but better than 4 so far.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PastiesI was only able to play 4 after changing the control set-up to the traditional 'X to accelerate', somehow this also changed the whole handling of the car, at least that's what it felt like

So it arrived yesterday, and although I'd planned to have a quiet weekend in, couldn't resist firing it up last night.
WOW.
Okay, for the first minute I was thinking "oh noes" when I couldn't get the controls - fearing another ICO - but quickly realised I'd set it to Southpaw when turning off all the assists (inc. radar, map and HUD) but after that - yep - it is has far not failed to deliver.
Only went for a quick blast around - a few stars here and there (evading police without the radar is tough!) but mostly just touring the place, getting to grips with the cars and guns in the firing range.
The story telling (what v.little I did of it) is spot on - but for me, it's the spectacle of the scenery that's making my eyes water - hooning across the massive bridges in quick succession, in rush hour, on a motorbike? Awesome. Buzzing a helicopter through skyscrapers in a dusky sunset? Sweet.
Really impressed so far.

Historically, I've always struggled despite the radar. I think the original GTA was about right for me.

It's entirely do-able, you've the choice of gunning it or sneaking away - sneaking away works if you know where you're sneaking too (which currently, I don't) and isn't purely in an upward direction (the radar-detection appears to work in plan-only) - and in the same way, if you plan to run away - know where to run to - or you'll end up like I did a few times, just doing loops around the city, stirring up more attention as I bombed down the streets. ...but I'll go so far as to say the chase sequences are on a par with NFSMW - which, given that's a standalone game in it's own right, is quite an achievement.

I think I'll try just about anything to escape the cops - driving just outside their radar and hiding in an alley or behind a wall or something, diving into the water and swimming under a pier, jumping on the train...

The problem I've had with driving away to evade the police is that car handling can be ridiculous at times. GTA:VC/SA it was fun but sometimes frustrating. GTA:4 it was always frustrating.

I had an awesome police chase today. Was escaping the police at night. Near the highway intersection just at the airport.
Found a ramp to a stunt jump which took me over a gap and on to another section of highway.
Then the helicopter was called so I went be rather the overpass to escape. Eventually I jumped out of the car and his behind a pillar in the sewer way thingy.

Enough about your real life! What happened in the game?
