EA Sports boss Peter Moore has claimed that gamers would rather keep games at 60 frames per second than play them in 3D.

Speaking to CVG, Moore said that he didn't believe gamers wanted to "sacrifice" a higher frame rate experience for 3D.

EA Sports is yet to announce a 3D title - although it has seen Sony-published baseball game MLB: The Show go into three dimensions.

Sony admitted earlier this year that 3D games on PS3 could only run at a maximum of 30fps - something not lost on Enslaved creator Ninja Theory.

"I've seen a couple of our games running in 3D [behind closed doors]," said Moore. "There are some cool moments, but there is a cost for my development teams to do it. There is a tax on the hardware - you know, you need two cameras. there is a frame-rate issue... you've got to bring it back up again.

He added: "I don't think gamers want to sacrifice a smooth frame-rate. In other words, games that are currently running at 60fps going down to 30 just for 3D.

"The other thing is, you've got to be able to play the game. You play FIFA from a top-down perspective. You play Madden from a top-down perspective. The higher the camera is, the less the impact of 3D happens to be."

However, Mooore admitted that it was "too early" for him to have made up his mind on 3D for good - and that EA plans to "watch and wait".

He was more upbeat on Nintendo's handheld 3DS, which he said EA saw as a "very different experience".

EA's very un-3D, very must-buy FIFA 11 is released in the UK next week on October 1.

Our full interview with Peter Moore will be published on CVG soon.

I'm not even sure time should be sacrificed for 3D...

What difference does it make if you can only see at 25 fps?

That's what I was thinking, but IIRC, it's something to do with fooling the eyes into not noticing inherent graphical imperfections :|
