Assassin's Creed 2 – Early Impressions

Ok, I am sure that just about everyone now has seen the Assassin's Creed 2 Live E3 Demo and I was just wondering what people think?
I actually loved the original and completed it fully, despite acknowledging the plethora of flaws the game had, which now follow:
[*]Crap combat (repetitive, restrictive and formulaic) [*]Crap protagonist (whiney, generic American tosser) [*]Crap plot (seriously!) [*]Crap narrative (Pretentious beyond belief, especially death speeches) [*]Crap variety (if EVER have to do those same three side missions again I will scream) [*]Crap stealth (Just completely non-existent in game about sneaking in for a kill) [*]Crap pacing (In MGS4 you sit around for up to 40 minutes watching the beautifully crafted narrative expand before you and it is only ever slightly laboured. In AC I wanted to gouge my f*****g) eyes out after 30 seconds. JUST LET ME KILL HIM ALREADY!) [*]Crap end-game (Really!)
Funny how flawed it was, really. Especially considering all the 90 per cent reviews that came flooding in from hyped-up hack journos who should no better. What kept me going back time and time again though was just the sheer level of freedom of movement that you had. It was very, very satisfying to climb to the top of the tallest minarets and just look around.
Anyway, opinions? I have to say that the additions that were shown off were exceptionally cool but, I do hope that the variety boasted of extends to more than just, 'there are thirty weapons in the game'. Cue remake of AC1.

I hated the repetative missions. I especially hated the side mission where you have to kill someone and without being detected to get the 'clue', and I hated the bloody ending. I hope the story follows on directly or I'll be pi55ed.
Despite its flaws though I really enjoyed the game. Crazy I know. Free running and mucho killing sprees was lots of fun.
Pleeeeeeeease make the second one better!!
BTW did anyone notice when talking to the head assassin dude after completing a big mission Altair seemed to bop up and down on the spot?

Assassins Creed was a good looking game, it's just a shame that as far as gameplay went, once you had completed one assassination in each of the cities, you had pretty much seen everything. The climbing was good at the time, but it has been done better since by the likes of Infamous, which is also 3rd person and has a much better plot. What ruined AC1 for me was the whole "in and out" nature of it. If I had been Altair for the whole game without the boring Desmond bits in between, it would have been far more immersive and I may have actually cared about the outcome.
As MGS4 was mentioned, I'll continue - with MGS4 you were always Snake, the cutscenes were engaging, well thought out and the characters were likeable and there was genuine emotion in the character's voices. Moments in the ending were genuinely touching and there was a thin layer of humour mixed in. It was close to perfect. AC had none of that. I can't see AC2 being much better. I couldn't care less about Altair or Desmond from the first one, so even if they were in the 2nd one, I still wouldn't care.

Hmm...
From playing Infamous in HMV I am still tempted to get a PS3!
Plus GT5 will be exclusive also!
Hmm... I'll wait a couple of months and see if there are any rumours about price cuts.

Gran Turismo is the one - and only the one - game that will make me sell my kidney to own a Playstation. Most other titles (Bioshock, Fallout, Assassins Creed, Fifa, COD4, GTA, etc etc) are available on both formats and not significantly better on either format anyway. I do have a bit of a craving for Little Big Planet though. I dont know why but it looks like something I'd really like to play. Maybe the missus will treat me at Christmas!

Yep same, except for me it would be LBP, GT5 and Infamous (from a quick play at HMV). Infamous has got amazingly fluid movement around the cityscape and an extremely smooth transition between the ground and the buildings. I fell in love with the movement.

LBP is good fun, but there are far better exclusives out there worth looking at. I tend to avoid the cross platform ones and get them on the PC instead, but the likes of Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Infamous, Motorstorm, Resistance 1 & 2 and Uncharted (and soon to be 2) are all awesome and with the exception of Crackdown, far better than anything I've ever played on my 360 - but with the PS3 there is far less noise, UPS collections and scratched discs!

Not dying when you hit water, ftw.
That alone makes this game 10 times better. Plus a character we can relate to rather than the detached bastard that was Alatair. Go Ezio.
