Call of Duty multiplayer will get a subscription based "second tier" within months, according to analysts.
Wedbush Securities predicts that a monetised section of Call of Duty's online multiplayer features will come in the first quarter of this year.
On the subject of the possibility of paid-for online models in gaming, the company's January 2011 newsletter reads:
"Activision remains a top pick, primarily due to the company's potential to create and monetize a second tier of multiplayer online gaming for its Call of Duty franchise.
"We expect this to occur during the first quarter of 2011."
In July last year Activision, Infinity Ward and Treyarch assured players that they will never have to pay extra to play Call of Duty online.
In September last year, however, Activision revealed it was looking towards some kind of premium service for Call of Duty online which would offer additional gameplay features at a cost without limiting the basic multiplayer experience that CoD players already receive.
