Sledgehammer is developing the "next Call of Duty game", according to a new job advert for the studio.

A job listing for a community manager posted on January 5 reads: "Would you like the chance to build and drive the studio community management effort for Sledgehammer and the next Call of Duty game? If so then we want to hear from you!"

While Sledgehammer was originally rumoured to be making a third person Call of Duty title, the developer's website clearly states it's creating a CoD FPS game.

Unless there are two CoD FPS releases planned for this year, the job ad would appear to suggest Sledgehammer's at work on the core annual series update which releases each November. Whether that's Modern Warfare 3 or CoD: Space Warfare is anyone's guess.

So where does that leave Infinity Ward? Unless of course it's IW making COD:MW3, Treyarch making COD:BLOPS2 and Sledgehammer making COD:In Space or some other crap?? Then we can buy 3 COD games a year and pay a premium subscription for them all. Yipee!

Modern Warfare 3 co-developed by Sledgehammer, Raven - report

Sledgehammer Games is working alongside Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 according to "people close to the matter".

This comes as no surprise after job listings for positions at Sledgehammer openly announced the studio's involvement in the "next Call of Duty" game.

According to the LA Times report, the two studios are 'equally sharing' development on the game's single-player campaign, which is expected to be ready for a November release.

This comes after turmoil at Infinity Ward surrounding the shock sacking of its bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella that left a question mark over the studio's capacity to take on the monumental task of developing the next Call of Duty.

Meanwhile, the report claims that Activision has called on further support from a third studio, Raven Software, to work on the online multiplayer portion of the game.

Involving Sledgehammer in development of MW3 has reportedly forced Activision to put the studio's other major project, a Call of Duty spin-off started before the upheaval at Infinity Ward, on hold.
