So who's got one, and what's it like?

Is there a killer app yet? All the stuff I've seen has been jumping about playing sports and dancing - are there no minority report style tactical games yet?

I am keen to see how it will flesh out as a UI device for computer control. The is more there than just a games controller. I think it would be a boon for disabled users.

Except those in a wheelchair.... doesn't (or at least last time I saw one working) recognise people with wheels of steel

The software doesn’t at the moment - but I reckon that can be adjusted. At the moment it’s a games controller, but MS are putting out dev kits for use on PCs. Considering what has been done simply by “hacking” it, I think there is a lot more to be done with it outside of the flailing around games controlling world.

If it could, for example, pick up on facial movements, you’ve got a way for Prof S Hawkins to control his world without having to rely on a mechanical switch under his eye.

This guy has done loads of hacking and has created some awesome tools that are a lot more than just game controllers.

There are others aswell but I've been following this guy.

I played Kinect Sports (Football bit) and really enjoyed it for a muck around. Controlling the dashboard was a fun novelty too. Not sure I'd fork out for a Kinect at the minute though. Even Child of Eden is supposed to be better on a Joypad and AFAIK which is a shame as it's one of the titles the Kinect fans were pinning their hopes on.
