That's a bit rich.

He designed Ultima in the eighties and then milked it for 15 years, hasn't designed anything else of note and had a pop at being producer on a few flops but everyone else is sh!t?

Whilst the delivery smacks of staggering arrogance, I think he has something of a point regarding the difficulties of practicing and perfecting the art of game design.

I would add Sid Meier as a great games designer. He is right that there are few great designers, but most games now are very formulaic, and variations of previous successes.

Er yeah. Even the civilisation series is rehashing an old classic. Even so it is one of the few games that I will buy.
