I'm guessing so.
What effect would all of it have on your battery life do you reckon? Could you see yourself using it?

The additional battery drain is going to be insignificant compared to the power used running the game and the screen. BT only really reduces battery life when you're talking about the phone being in stand-by for hours on end, where every milliamp counts. I don't have any BT controllers but I thought Android had supported them for quite a while. I guess this is specific to the PS3 controller. Would I ever use them? The only time I could imagine might be if I was stuck in a hotel. If I'm at home, I have more powerful gaming platforms. If I'm out and about I wouldn't carry a controller with me, and blue-tacking your phone to someone's back would be a trifle odd. If I wasn't me? I'm sure there's a market for it or there wouldn't be such an active Android game controller community. |

The potential interest is that you can use an MHL adapter to mirror the Xperia's display to a TV. Given it's running at 1080p anyway and has a fairly beefy graphics chip, if you hook an Xperia Z up to a TV and use a bluetooth controller, you've got a home games console with a capability not far off that of an Xbox 360 or PS3. Doesn't have quite the same level of games of course but the fact is there are now a lot of pretty decent games for high-spec mobiles. I wouldn't take it over a 360 or PS3, but it'd make a pretty reasonable substitute. For about an hour until the battery ran out, anyway  . Actually no, now I come to think about it. The MHL adapater I use requires USB power to work, so it would charge the phone as you were playing a game. Be better if you could do the whole thing wirelessly in the style of airplay mirroring but I think that's only available if you have the right sort of Sony smart TV.Jon |
