Can't be any worse than the last one. Hopefully.

You wonder what happened to Amy. She must have a story, but this may not be the way to tell it.

The time spent trying to incorporate the films into the last game was certainly wasted - people will only care if your game isn't a steaming turd.

At least the vibe so far is the original Alien...

IIRC Ripley was handed a dossier on her daughter's life by Burke(?) on the space station before joining The Sulaco. There certainly wasn't any mention of aliens or such. Not that they'd have told her if there was, of course.

So long as it isn't a case of dying every two minutes until you figure out what the developers want you to do.

I hope so. I’d much prefer to see a game that’s less steering of the player.

My wife, BTW, will hate it. She really has problems with Alien - she can’t get through to the point where they set down on LV426 - she says the tension buildup is too much for her. So, good job, Ridley, on that! If they can build and maintain that level of tension through, what did they say, 12 hours of gameplay, then good. My concern is that it will start to be repetitive in that amount of time.

Yep, just what I was thinking about. Her daughter lived and died before she returned.

I know Burke mentions the terraforming community had been on LV-426 for years before her lifeboat was salvaged but, they didn't lose contact with LV-426, due to encountering the aliens, until AFTER she had returned to earth.

I can't think of a hook where it works well. They can't set it on the Nostromo because the alien from that ship came with Ripley onto the lifeboat and she blew it out the airlock (er... spoilers :D) so there are no aliens on the original ship (unless they claim a queen somehow got on there too). As you say, the 'cresent ship' on LV-426 wasn't discovered by the colonists during Ripley's daughter's lifespan.

There are only two ways in the standing film timeline that Ripley's daughter and an alien could have come into contact

1) An alien queen got on board the Nostromo somehow. I can see no logical way this happens.
2) Weyland-Yutani manage to harvest the ship on LV-426 without telling anyone long before the settlers arrive on the planet. In which case I can't see the company would have reacted to the colony going off air the way they did, just by sending in a squad of marines. They would have known they'd get slaughtered for no gain at all and they'd either lose the colony and the aliens (take off and nuke the site from orbit) or they'd have to send a lot more soldiers in to sort it out.

I'm sure they'll come up with some justification and I'm sure the game will be much, much better than Colonial Marines, but however they get the plot started is going to need a proper crowbarring.

The only possible explanation I can think of is that LV 426 isn't the first timeWeyland-Yutani has encountered the aliens. Ripley was an employee and maybe her daughter felt compelled to follow the same career path as her mother.

I said possible, however tenuous, not plausible. ;)

In Alien, it was revealed that the signal was a warning. Ash (IIRC) worked this out, but as he was an android, it is likely that he had fore knowledge of the extra mission the Nostromo would be undertaking. After all, he did not have to be in hibernation, and there was plenty of time for data uploads, briefings etc, before the crew was woken.

If we take a Prometheus as canon, then we know that Weyland knew about something. You don't throw that kind of money at a expedition like that without some kind of backup/safeguards back home. They knew more than they let on.

I'd have to watch it again, but I don't recall any survivors returning to earth in Prometheus and I got the impression the communications were disrupted by local weather conditions.

Like I said, the Ripley connection seems tenuous at best.
