Given the problems they had getting LDC working on the PS3 (didm‘t they have to call min Sony to help with that?), I am dubious.

Yeah, Sony were providing assistance, probably along the lines of 'let's keep RAM out of this!'.

I played the first beta they had and the game itself seemed very good. There were times where getting onto the server wasn't possible, but it was expressly a load testing weekend, so I imagine they deliberately overloaded the system for at least some of that to test how things responded. Aside from that I didn't encounter any issues at all.
