Grrr, well, I bought my GTX260 a few weeks ago, and SCAN had their offer on so I could download Batman: Arkham Asylum free when I bought the GPU.
Well, there's no code in the box for this, there's one code, but that's for the nZone, and is for $25, not what I'm looking for. So, I'm off to various web sites to find a torrent for this game, so I can stick 2 fingers up at these companies!!
Eugh...bastardo...

The code is for Steam... I had one today with my new GTX 275.
Activate a product on Steam, put the 25-digit code in and wait 10 hours for it to download!

Hooky versions DO NOT WORK The hooks stop the parachute from deploying so you can't complete the game http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/a177 ... rates.html

That's the sort of link I was trying to find - I knew there was something about dodgy torrented versions...

Such a cool idea! Rather than make the game untorrentable, make it pointless to torrent because you can't enjoy the game the way it was intended.

It's certainly not new as a technique to encourage sales and discourage piracy
Champ manager game saves used to 'deteriorate' over time, some RPG games you would lose experience and one of the space based games you would lose money every time you went through a portal.
Some of the old amiga games let you play but just made it insanely hard (when it was the 'enter the nth word on page x line y' for the protection)

I remember Atari ST games like that, where not only did you need the manual, the code you had to find and enter was printed on darker paper so it was difficult to photocopy

I had a game (InterDictor) on the Acorn A3000 and the first page of the manual had a huge grid made up of blue, green, red, yellow, white and black squares (about 400 in total I reckon). In order to play the game you had to get the correct colour corresponding to 4 grid references. Once you got that you could play the game. Needless to say... I lost the manual I did manage to guess the code once though
