I'd say I'm a lapsed WoW player. Used to play a lot and am still paying the sub but I haven't been on for quite a while and haven't even bothered to buy Lich King yet.

Meet my gf in WoW in Dec 05. We both stopped playing in early 06, and just used msn to talk. We met a few times during 06, and in Dec 06 she moved here from Norway, and we have been together ever since

I got into WOW right at the beginning (2005) before it went massive. As a huge RPG fan (Baldur's Gate I, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Fallout I, Fallout II, Neverwinter Nights) it was a natural progression and an exciting new concept, taking a D&D-type fantasy environment to a massively multiplayer scale. Unfortunately however, for me, the WOW experience got cut short partly by fate and partly by my own gaming upbringing, so-to-speak. The former was caused by a myriad of reasons – lack of time, increased work load, flat move, shocking internet connection, to name but a few – however the latter was purely due to how I had been cultured by years growing up on the single-player RPG experience. Despite regularly undertaking raids and cooperative missions, I just didn't warm to the community vibe that the game has been so successful in cultivating, preferring to go solo whenever possible as I had done so many times through the 1990's and early 2000's. Therefore I hit 60 with one character and haven't played since.
Oh, plus I absolutely hated the GRIND!

I've played it alot over the last four years, currently i'm on a break from the game. If i'm honest i don't think i'll end up returning as i've re-found the joy in playing non mmo games. Currently fallout 3 & Civ 4 are taking up my time.

Technically you don't need the expansions to start off with, but you will once you reach the first level cap of 60 and wish to continue. This is because the expansions increase the level cap, as well as adding new continents and content. You can't access these without the expansions. WoW - 2 continents level cap 60. BC (Burning Crusade) - Two new races (1x per side) and access to their starting locations + Outlands (New continent)+ content. Wotlk - New Deathknight class (pre-req you to have at least 1x 55 level char on the realm you wish to create on). New continent of Northrend, level cap to 80 and new content. If you feel like you want to try it I recommend you try and find someone who will add you via the recommend a friend option(not sure if this has a free trial period along with it), this leads to bonus xp gain to help you get through the normal content to the new Wotlk stuff (where all the action is). Just read up on it at the wow site http://www.wow-europe.com/en/index.xml

I used to play. I got bored when I hit the lvl60 cap and gave up. Then Burning Crusade came out and I played again. Then I hit the lvl70 cap, got a load of epic items, and gave up. Then Wrath of the Lich King came out and I played again. Then I hit.... actually I didn't. I gave up way before the lvl80 cap this time.
I dont think I'll go back again now.
