How can they think this is gonna help gaming?

The possibility of Infinity Ward releasing MW2 with no dedicated servers is effing stupid......

I don't want a console, i want to use my PC for this game & play online.
All i can say is that i'm glad that the money wasn't in my account earlier when i went to pre-order this....

yours very pissed off wecrookie

The first article i just laughed at. Personally i find it hilarious when somebody goes on a rant about information that they "deduced"/"extrapolated" from other information and not from hard fact. The main one being how he "knew" that MW2 would need heavy patching and that Activision/IW deciding not to delay the PC version obviously meant that the game was being rushed out.

I'm not saying that he's wrong, but really.... a) What game hasn't needed patching after release? b) Infinity Ward's done a pretty good job with the CoD series so far, how about a little faith?

And as for the second article, i'm a little split over what to think of it.

It *seems* as if IW are going down a more console route whereby (i assume) you can party up with friends and then find "randomers" to play with as well so that you have a full game and you and your friends are on the same team. The one thing i dislike about PC gaming is how hard it is to join a server and get all your friends on the same team due to team balancing issues etc. which i hope this will fix.

On the other hand, i do appreciate the fact that Clan/Hosted servers always have a regular community and it's always nice to play with (or have the opportunity) regulars or on servers where you know the atmosphere is suitable to your tastes.

Ideally i hope they'd be able to find a way to incorporate both systems and ultimately if only one could be chosen then the "normal" server route should be taken since that's what people are used to.

Presumably, the lack of dedicated server means the multiplayer element dies when the company decides, not when the users decide. Given how potty large parts of the community are, I don't know how well they'll put up with that.

If this game doesn't take off like COD4, it could be potentially disastrous for the PC gaming community. Personally, I'm going to leave it alone. COD4 was fun, but it's not something that was particularly captivating. My money will be going on the Eastern bloc titles that aren't gimped for consoles. They may be rough around the edges, but they're original and not deliberately compromised.

im not sure that this will be perminant, i think that they may not do dedicated servers to start with but they will sort out all the bugs then allow it if it makes sense. Anyway it may just be a rumer because they have already started making the rcon (admin tool) for modern warfare 2
cheers boothy

I play all sorts of games on a PC, and rarely...maybe once or twice a year....spot a blatant hacker. People seem to think it's a huge problem in online games, in my experience it's not. Compared to how CS was back in 2001, today's games are a walk in the park!

I also play games on PS3, and the P2P/matchmaking is awful at times. I've had several games of KZ2 where one lagger manages to ruin it for everyone else, and unlike hackers he/she is not even doing it intentionally! I'd stake my money on P2P hosting ruining more online games than hackers ever did!

My own belief is that IW are trying to maintain more control over their games by placing it all in their own hands. The weak excuses about "problems" that literally no other game, using dedi servers, has.... is just hot air.

That is the biggest load of b*llocks :x :x :x

There is so much in that statement that is wrong ........

As F_A_F said hacking isn't the biggest problem going,i know on our clan server it's been a long time since we've had anyone banned due to that.It is generally due to advertising and/or continuous breaking of server rules that get peeps banned.

I don't want to be put in a game with people of the "same skill level" or "play in a clan match" as a private match. It is part of gaming online to be put in a match with peeps that can be a lot better than i am or ever will be or even on the rare occasion with someone worse than me.... I enjoy the fact that as a sniper clan we can set up the game as we like to and custom make maps to suit us .

If i am happy to play with people from Australia,America,Denmark,Serbia or any where else in the world why cant i???

Just because they want to dumb things down for consoles doesn't mean that PC users should have too.

I admit, I bought it, just because it was payday and I wanted a game to play. Think there was also a bit of sheer morbid curiosity in there too - wanting to see how much of a train wreck it is. It is cinematic, I'll give them that, but it does feel incredibly familiar, the snow climbing is infuriating and the graphics are have aged badly. I haven't tried MP yet, but I'm not all that bothered.

Still don't get what that airport scene was in there for - marketing gimmick maybe.

I'm not too sure what all the fuss is about tbh, but I suppose that's because I'm not a PC gamer.

To me, the multiplayer stuff on MW2 is awesome - but I've got a 360...

Why does it matter who is hosting the game server?? They would still be hosting the same game, right? So what difference does it make? :?
