Okay so i've decided that I want a PS3.

Mainly for FFXIII - I was holding out to get it on xbox 360 but have now found out that it's going to be severely nerfed in terms of graphics because of blu-ray - but also because i've got about 25 PS2 games that I really like and no PS2 to play them on! Yes, I took it apart and broke something. Silly me.

However i've heard that some models of PS3s aren't backwards compatible!

Anyone know which ones are, and where to get one?

=)

In the EU only the original 1st generation 60GB PS3 model is backwards compatible with PS2 games, none of the newer models are.

Anyone know where to reliably find one of those?

If eBay's out of the question, Cash Converters or Game - expect to pay over the odds at either, though presumably you'll get some sort of guarantee...

Here's the Game link. Though it says out of stock, some of the stores over here are still selling them 2nd hand so you could ask...

Well ebay's not totally out of the question, but with something like that it's easy to get bitten on the arse.

Annoyingly, Cex is £210 for an unboxed one.

It's only £40 for a NEW slimline one!

I'm not a big fan of the slim line model, it looks [LIFTED] compared to the original.

Have you looked at the CEX unboxed model or did you see it online?

I prefer the Slim aesthetically - it doesn't weigh a ton and is generally easier to place, not to mention you won't pass out from the heat it gives off ;)

The downgraded functionality can be a pain though :(

Found it online, haven't managed to get to a store. I assume it looks the same online as it does IRL? =/

Also I prefer the look of the old one =)

Just wonder what sort of condition it was in, I'm sure CEX do a warranty of some sort though.

Why is that then?

Seems a little odd to me. :?

It uses a chip to get the PS2 games to play IIRC, and Sony were already losing money on each Blu-ray drive, beg your pardon, system sold. So... ;)

Nope, the EU PS3s use software emulation to play PS2 games. Only the 1st generation came with this software.

I think you are both right - Sony working on super-PS2 backwards compatibility for PS3

Might sound stupid... why not buy a PS2 then get a PS3 when FF13 comes out?
