With the new FFXIII game coming out/already out for PS3 I'm seriously tempted (yet again) to get a PS3.

I don't really play any PC games any more mainly because I can't be bothered installing updates or installing stuff, etc...

So, I was thinking of possibly selling my PC and putting it towards a PS3.

However, I don't have a TV for it to go into but I do have a monitor (but with no sound).

So, my question is...

Can I use a DVi (1680x1050) monitor and my 5.1 surround speakers with the PS3? The speakers take a phono input (IIRC) not used them in a while though.

Thanks for any help

I'm not sure about your speakers (I use optical), but this cable suggests that you could indeed use your monitor:

It would depend on what resolutions the PS3 supports, though?

If the PS3 doesn't support 1680x1050, and I'd imagine that it doesn't, then the monitor will have to fall back to something else.

It could end up looking crap??

Well I'm assuming the monitor would support 720...

Yeah, it'll work at 1280x720, which shouldn't look too bad.

Assume a DVI -> HDMI adapter would work for setting the monitor up.

Don't have my PS3 on me to check about audio input/outputs though.

Hmm... TBH what I might do is save up a bit and sell some stuff (i.e. my PC) and get a PS3 and HDTV :D

That sorts everything out then :D

Sounds like a plan, TV's have really come down in price over the last few years, can find some good buys out there.
