I haven't used Ebay for a VERY long time. Mainly due to PayPal being a complete arse.

Anyway, I've been browsing the PS3s on there and they are a very good price.

£200 + £10 P&P for an almost unboxed PS3. (No games).

Seems like a very good price to me.

What is ebay like recently? Anyone buy anything recently?

I use it quite often but for something like a PS3 I'd be more likely to go to the shops. £210+ (incl PP) with no games or £280 from a shop with 1-2 games fully boxed and warranty.

I actually came to the same conclusion :D

It might be cheaper but I'd prefer to pay more for the extra security etc...

shop around and you can probs get one £200 new

Mind the slim is likely to be announced at E3 tomorrow which could help drive the price of the old one down :)

Ah cool, I knew the price was being dropped and I guessed it would be when the slim PS3 was unveiled but I didn't know when that would be.

I'll keep an eye out.

Thanks!

Just another vote for going through Ebay.

I bought a 60GB PS3 off Ebay just as they brought out the 40GB for about £230. I thought I had played the system well, waiting for the price drop and then picking up one that is backwards compatible with PS2 games for, back then, a great price. However, it was then another 2 months before I actually got a PS3. The dealer took the money, as well as from about eight other individuals buying from him, and then all communication was cut. It was a big fat scam.

Now, after going through the whole painfully slow process of lodging a complaint, having the complaint investigated, waiting for the complaint to be proved true, waiting for my money to be reimbursed (which was actually only about £210 so I lost 20 quid), I did eventually get my money back and bought another 60 GB for £215 and all was well.

The story does not end there though. Since then I have had the unit break twice. Once because of the Blueray drive packing up and once – only three days ago – because of the power supply going. The first time it was out of guarantee but I managed to wangle a repair for free, this time however, I have no choice but to pay £140 to get it fixed.

So, all I can say is that if I were you I would really hedge my bets and buy from a reputable store and not ebay, preferably with an extended warranty. I buy a lot on ebay, and 90 per cent of my dealings have been perfectly good and above board, but in this case I would definitely say play it safe.

Oh, plus definitely wait for the slim to be announced / brought out for the price drop.

I'd check your local papers. I spotted one this morning for £215 including a couple of games.

My last couple of eBay purchases were fine. The one before that was a proper [LIFTED].
In fact, the large majority of my eBay stuff has been fine.

Insure it here then wait a week or 2 and get it fixed.
