Does it really matter, as you'll have to touch the door to get out of the toilet anyway (which will have more germs & particles of cr@p on it)

Which is why I think doors in public toilets should open outwards - so you can use your feet to get out.

Why not go the whole hog and have sensor mats so the doors open automatically?
