If they get the food with a bit of effort that is not teasing. It is when you show them the food and they do not get it that is teasing.

We feed our cats. We also play with them - they case bits of string, run up and down the stairs after toys, we’ll even chase them down the garden - they seem to like that (you can tell by the way they run that it’s a game).

We do give them cat treats - either from our hands, or we’ll scatter them in a room and let them go looking for them. I think all this interaction creates happy cats - one is asleep on a sofa next to me, and the other is enjoying the last few minutes of sun in the garden.

For what it's worth, I think I have an equal number of pictures of my smelly old pussy curled up with both misters and misses. I'm not sure she could tell the difference; she just liked being petted.

These were not staged, just in case you are wondering. A friend hadn't seen my house since I moved in for 2 years, and the day she comes round their are feathers everywhere and the head laying next to the coffee table.
