The interesting part still remains that them and BNP have policies that agree with most of us. What's quite fascinating, is that the "mainstream" parties don't tally with us as much as the "extremists".

that's because the extremist parties, much like voters, are not hampered by reality, but a party likely to play a part in government is. Voters invariably believe all sorts of things that are routinely described as "common sense" but which are actually completely untrue. Just as it was once a well known fact that the flat Earth* was orbited by the sun, so it is that immigrants who seek employment must steal English jobs, or that the end of the cane was the beginning of juvenile delinquency. These common sense truisms are invariably wrong, and the truth is never so moronically simplistic as we wish it to be. Fringe parties are ideally placed to exploit our inherent desire to believe these asinine fantasies, and any among us smug enough to assume we are above that sort of thing are probably mistaken.

The true defining purposes of their agendas tend to be neither better nor worse than the peripheral items in this regard, but by being far more important, they are subject to far greater scrutiny, and so it is normal that we should reject the core without really noticing the problems at the periphery.

* this is actually a myth, medieval monks knew that the Earth was round, so did the Greeks, Romans and Persians before them. But we all know that before Columbus, everybody thought the world was flat; because that too is common sense.

That tiny little hole is where I was born. Although I haven't actually lived there for a very long time, I still consider it "home".

Quoted for emphasis.

All of us are apt to be mislead when we're told what we want to hear. The Fantasy Politics is:

Cut tax, Increase spending and Make Britain Great again!

Everything that's wrong with Britain today can be easily blamed on foreigners, because the lazy retards that are the back-bone of this great nation are obviously superior to foreign freaks who only have English as one of several languages and also believe in "working" to "better themselves". These disgusting filth are destroying our peachy lives.

Agree with me when I say you are important. You are significant. You are better than "them". Vote for me. Then lay in the bed you've soiled.

The devil is a politician and he wants your soul.

A whole lot of sense

Thing is, I don't believe any of the stuff you quoted, personally. I'm aware of extremism and how easily we can come to it. My point was, if your personal feelings on a variety of situations don't match the mainstream parties, what incentive is there to vote for them, other than the usual "they were [LIFTED] for 10 years, let's try somebody else".

JJ, I meant no offence. I consider Camborne to be my home, but it is still a stinking mess. There are several of them down here, contrasting the more beautiful and less chavvy places. My point was, that they have a BNP candidate and you wouldn't get that in St. Mawes, or St. Ives, or Falmouth.

None of this changes what I said yesterday, I don't see why people are so wound up about it, but perhaps shockwaffle's take on extremism can give us a clue.

Edd, c'est incroyable! C'est plus comfortable pour moi, comme ca ;)

I didn't know there was a Taxi 3. I've got Taxis 1 & 2, and they're fantastique, but I can't help thinking a third might be over-egging the pudding.
