Cycle....

Find me a long time runner aged 50 or over who says they don't have knee problems, and I'll point out a liar...

Well, did the BMF fitness assessment again last night (they do it every month but I seem to keep missing it).

It starts with a 1500m run and my times have been... 7:10, 6:07, 6:04 and 6:04 the last 4 times I did it so I was aiming to beat the 6 minute mark.

I did it in 5:41!

Woo!

I am a slob with asthma, the most exercise I do is a 3 mile daily walk. :)

+2

I try to do a 30 minute walk every day - most days I am able to do it, but the hot weather has put paid to that. I’ll be restarting that regime now that the temperature has cooled down.

I walk two miles in to work every day, two miles home. Takes me about 30 minutes to make the journey. Then there's all the walking between those two trips.
Thinking about starting playing 5-a-side football again which would also help with the general fitness level.

Yip, I'm just under 2 and a half miles x2 every day, takes about 40 mins. God only knows what weight I'd be otherwise

I walk into town and back every day to get my lunch which is about a two to three mile walk.

You're doing really well if you're down to that level of body fat!
You're still young, aren't you? Git. I hate young people.
I got down to about 20% at my best. More than that would have required a more specialist diet, which as I eat with the family, ain't going to happen.

I'm 26. Is that young?

It sounds really sad but I haven't been in shape like this for years (like seriously about 13 years). I'm really tempted to go the extra step and try to shed some body fat. I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I read an article saying you should try to alternate your aerobic exercise. Do some running, some cycling (well I don't have a bike) and some swimming.

So I may start going down to a swimming pool and doing lengths. I used to do 50 or so lengths after work (when I worked in the city). It might do my knee some good as well to get rid of the impact.

I don't want to go down the whole gym membership thing though as I pay £30+ a month for the BMF training and it's a lot more beneficial than a gym (for me).

Yes, you're young. 25/26 was when I started struggling for the first time. I'm not yet 29, but the last 2 or 3 years have seen my fat get worse, with no appreciable difference in diet or exercise. In the last 6mths however, I've lost a stone and I'm feeling great. This is largely due to just eating less and paying more attention to what I eat, but it's not a diet, it's a mindset.

Just spent a weekend running round a forest beating stuff up. Awesome fun, even got my back repaired by a member of my faction. (Apparently I had 7 ribs out of place, torn a bicep in the last year or so and broken my wrist about 7-8 years ago  )

Generally, if I have to do anything other than walking, I'll get on the bike or go swimming or do something randomly knackering. Seems to do the trick. :-)
