And yes, it needed a whole new thread!!!

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archiv ... -statement

No words can express how happy I am. The cliche says that no player is bigger than a club but believe me, Cesc Fabregas is very big at Arsenal. He is the one that make things happen and he can make or break our season. Fans love him and he loves the club.

I can see that some of you will point out that Arsenal will have a player that didn't want to stay but with Cesc this is not an issue. He is 100% professional and he always does his absolute best on the pitch so I am not worried that he will under-perform as Henry did in his last season at Arsenal.

You can buy top class strikers, wingers, defenders and keepers but for Arsenal Cecs is irreplaceable. There are not many players in the world who can play that attacking central midfielder role the way he does. One player that could replace him is Wesley Sneijder but I don't think he would want to come to Arsenal and I don't think Arsenal could afford him anyway. In the future, Aaron Ramsey seems like he could be our "new" Cesc Fabregas but he needs at least two seasons to mature.

So Arsenal will get another chances with Cesc and hopefully they can achieve something together.
And I will be hoping that a certain spanish club goes bankrupt the the end of this season

Barcelona played a dirty game and lost.

By trying to damage his reputation/relationship with the club and fans they thought they would get him, and perhaps get him cheap.

Putting a barca shirt on him at the world cup just about summed it up.

Barca are playing a dangerous game, spend, spend, spend and yet they had to ask for an extension to their "overdraft" for a short period this summer.

Yeah, and who did they sign with the money? Villa. If they wanted Cesc as much as they say, they would have made Arsenal an offer they couldn't refuse.

I still don't think it's sunk in that Moody's moved to Bath. Going to be strange next season.

Looks like Arsene is going to stay too - I just read a bit on the Arsenal website saying that Arsene wants to finish his career at Arsenal. He is 61 now, and his contract ends at the end of this season so it looks like there might be a deal on the cards.

He said he will stay only if he believes that he can move the team forward. What I think he means is that if we do badly this season for some reason that is in hands (e.g. not injuries etc) he will consider it as his failure and he will give up.

I don't want him to go. I have faith.

I know a lot of people want him to move on, but I think the team did brilliantly last season - they were in with a very real shout right until the end of the season, when they completely lost it and got beaten by a few teams they really shouldn't have been losing against.

If they can do that without a proper striker, and a shaky goalkeeper then I can only see good things coming. Now they've bought Chamakh, all they need is a keeper. Still not completely sold on Koscielny (sp) - he didn't look to good in pre-season IMO.
