Maybe, maybe not. The A* is not just a grade boundary. Not only do you need a certain percentage overall, you also have to be above a certain percentage in each module, so you can't just make up for areas you are less good at by doing well in other modules. Of my music set, 3 of us went to uni to do music, one at Manchester, one at Durham, and one at Sheffield. I was told that, had the A* been available to my year, I would be the only one who got one . But they weren't, so I didn't. Which sucks. It would have sounded a lot better to say I got an A* and two Bs than just ABB. Although I take your point, I don't resent those who now get A*, I just resent the fact I wasn't able to be awarded one.

I know. It's 90% in all A2 modules, so I would have got it for Computing and Maths, but I'm not sure about physics off the top of my head. At the end of the day there's always got to be a cut off, but those of us near to it are always going to get lumped in with the people who could get the grades. Perhaps if it were possible to backdate over ten years to when the new AS/A2 modular A Levels were introduced? Seems far too much hassle, though, and it's just frustrating.

Nephew got four Bs and a D - sufficient to get him onto his course of choice at Falmouth. Result alright.

It's pleasing to see that students who aren't getting straight As are pleased rather than disappointed. Well done to all, they'll soon discover no-one at Uni. cares what grades you got anyway.

Well done. Teenage daughter picked up her As results yesterday, and was a bit disappointed with an ABBC (Psychology, English, History, Economics) - but she fared far better than her pals; I think it was a pretty tough year, so double-well-done to you!

I disprove your point by the fact that me and a friend were in the local press for both A Level and GCSE results. Definitely fugly results!

So does nobody have any cool results? You know, the ones that spell "fudge" or some such?

Friend of my daughters had her results spell 'DUDE' - oddly, she's not that amused...

One of my friends received his As-levels, he could spell "ooof", which he pretty much agreed with...
