Not that it might help but you could always try the Local Heritage section (Archivist) - usually found close to the library. Here you should be able to view old ordnance survey maps and if you're lucky, aerial photos - old ones. There should be somebody there up for a bit of detective work Al

Do a test pit. If you can find the Time Team book Archaeology is Rubbish in your library, it will tell you how to go about it and how to record anything you find. It’s by Tony Robinson and Mick Aston. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Archaeology-Rub ... 906&sr=1-1

I really doubt whether there's a bunker up there. I'd imagine it was built either for a shed or greenhouse. I just wondered whether there was some outhouse building or something.
Only recently did I find out that my bedroom used to be larger. It's a 3-bed house but the master bedroom is at the front. However, my bedroom used to be the master bedroom. At some point, a little old lady lived in this house, became infirm to the point of not being able to negotiate stairs and hence the master bedroom was partitioned off and a small bathroom was built upstairs.
This would have been more than 40 years ago.

Sorry, I don't have any pics.. It's about six foot long, has brick ends and corrigated iron (or steel, not sure which) walls and curved roof. Apparently it used to be covered in soil, but they dug it out.

* Heads off to Google * Yep that does look like it, only I'd say half of it is below the ground level of the rest of the garden. This one looks similar.

You didn't see the Tony Robinson series on the Blitz earlier this summer then? The Anderson shelters were half-buried in the ground, and then soil dumped on top. They obviously couldn't withstand a direct hit, but there are documented cases of people surviving bombs dropping very nearby.

I was thinking more along the lines of, 'I'd hate to have cause to test it'

Fair enough. Thousands did, though. And lived to tell the tale.
