I've seen several fuel stations in England, where the furthest pumps from the kiosk (and closest the exit) are pre-pay. Obviously this is to prevent drive-offs.

With the rising price of fuel I expect it to become the norm.

My card doesn't work in the pre-pay pumps.

I don't know why they don't adopt the American system here. It would stop "drive-offs" overnight. You either: A) Pay at the pump by card B) Pay by cash before you fill up. eg (Go in give them, £40, fill up with eg. £35.75 worth of petrol, go back in and get your £4.25 change. The pump won't let you take more than £40's worth so you can't steal petrol).

Actually none of mine would either. I have chip and signature cards.

Yeah, it's the only place I can't use it now - when I first got the card some shops didn't accept them but these days the pre-pay pumps is the only place I can't use it

The pumps at Asda in Luton didn't take my Allstar fuel card, and they didn't even have a kiosk so I was completely stuffed and had to go elsewhere.

It's because of the way Electron cards are authorised compared to normal Visa Debit cards.
