Just put ours up. I like real ones mainly because they smell nice. Each year I forget to wear gloves and end up with irritated skin from whatever the damned thing excretes. Wife and Helsing are decorating it.
We did have a fairly big (7') false one. It had several "layers" that you had to fix to the main trunk and took forever to get right. That was "donated" to the wife's school 3 or so years ago and graces the reception area.
I can remember, as a child, we would have a fairly small real tree, maybe 4' tall, and within days it would be dry with needles falling.
I also remember (as might some older members here) we used to have candle holders that clipped onto the branches and real candles which my dad would light most evenings for a while. In those days we had an open coal fire and would collect fallen needles and burn them. They burned with a fury too ! When I think back I shudder to think what an horiffic fire hazard the candles were. That said, at the time it was magical.
