Woo! Second! Congrats to NVJ, too.
I'm happy to oblige, JJ.
Essentially, it was the end of a journey back to Chatham from Wigan, a couple of weeks before Christmas. I'd had the idea of capturing the melting snow for the competition, as it was decaying in a way.
When we arrived in the car park late in the afternoon just after the sun had dipped beyond the trees, I noticed where the snow had been piled to one side, crusty, dirty and full of bits of dead plant. I got down low with the compact camera looking up at the pile (barely 30cm high), hoping to throw the background out of focus. I fired off a couple of shots, and this was the best shot after a bit of the allowed tweaking.
