I once tried to dig out a splinter in my hand. Botched it,and it went deeper. It is now sealed in my hand. Still visible.

That's happened to me although I think it was a spine from a plant. It was uncomfortable for a couple of months but had been assimilated by my body within a year. Resistance is futile.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.
