How about some good ones? One of my favourites - Carling black label (naff beers, great adverts) And of course the classic: Hamlet Cigars Photobooth Ad.

The Germans at the pool one, with the bouncing bomb towel. I preferred the advert they used during the 1990 world cup. The one where the footballer got hit in the nuts.

Thank you. There's tons more, but this year's Superbowl spot is clearly superlative. If only everything in life was as reliable as the dark side of the force.

I've sat in on meetings when an ad agency was presenting some "insights" and all I can say they talked utter bullards for an hour but it was funny and depressing at the same time as the senior people, basically being desperate to look like they got it it all, agreed with everything they said. Fair do to these people they get paid (in some case a huge amount of money) but too many times I feel they are just taking the piss. The classic case is the cadbury advert. Gorilla playing the drum, everyone remembers it, it won loads of awards but really had nothing to do with the product. But for me advertising has too much of negative effect on me. There are so many products that my impression is "I'm never buying that" because of the advert. but if you disagree with feel free.. team grumpy has come to camp.

The only thing I have bought into recently because of adverts is films. I can't remember the last time I saw/heard a tv/radio advert for a new cooking sauce, or a car, or cheap beans down the local supermarket and thought to myself "I must have that". I would say, most of my buying choice comes from being in the supermarket and seeing what is on offer, or seeing similar products next to each other, as well as knowing what I already like. When I come to buy a car I will look through the internet and trudge around car show rooms until I find something I like and a price that I like. I am 99% sure that I won't see the car I'm about to buy in an advert...

I've seen ads for this stuff recently that were smarter than most in that it told you it was selling out fast, but didn't tell you much about it : http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/alpecin- ... 10682.html

Same, in fact it's the only ad I've seen recently where I felt the urge to go and search google for Alpecin shampoo. Also that fact that it doesn't provide even a website address is quite clever. If you want to find out more you have to put the effort in.
