I've sold my first item on ebay, finally.
Now, according to ebay, the buyer sent payment almost immediately, yet three days later nothing has appeared in my paypal account.
This might be a stupid question, but shouldn't the payment just appear in my paypal account, as it is linked to my ebay account?
I've just had an email from paypal to say don't forget to claim your money from <buyer>.
WTF?
Never done this before, can someone explain this to me?
Cheers

Yes, I know. I use paypal all the time, but I've never sold on ebay before so, naturally, I thought I was missing a step - like maybe I had to make a claim for the money, before it was released.

FFS, now it appears?
Paypal emailed me at 6am, but it hit the account over 12 hours later?

This can happen when the buyer doesn't actually have the money sitting in their paypal account, and it has to be transferred from their bank into paypal. It they've gone through the whole link your bank account to paypal thing it's instantaneous, but if they haven't it can take a while.
Ultimately it's for your protection - once everything has gone through to paypal's satisfaction it the transaction will say "OK to post" and from then on you're covered if anything goes tits up.

Thanks.
It just seemed a little odd that I was informed he had paid three days ago, then paypal mail me at 6am to say claim your money but nothing until this evening.
It's fine, I had no intention of sending it until I saw the funds.
Regards

You may want to drop him a quick message to say that's what happened mate. Some people can give crappy feedback for no reason and if he belived he paid 3 days ago he may see it as a delay. He may not, it's just lots of odd people occupy the bay...

Yeah, I sent him a message mate - he knows his payment took three days to clear.
Be interesting to see how he responds with his feedback though.

Cool. I've found most people to be fine TBH. I have seen negative feedback in others ratings for the stupidest of reasons. One had negative feedback because postage costs were too high, I mean WTF? If they didn't like the postage costs why buy the thing? Like I say I've only had good buyers generally, more often than not very friendly.

sometimes sellers can but a higher postage than what it actually costs, I've seen quite a few seller do this, to people who dot sell so much its not that much can, but imagine a lot of sales, the revenue from it builds up

Aye, I've seen that too but they could just mark the stars down on the postage. To give a red mark next to a seller when you know full well what you're paying and you have the option not to buy seems a bit petty to me.
