According to http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+Kingdom&country2=Australia&city1=Cardiff&city2=Perth the costs is higher in Oz - but I think you'd still be ahead of the game with a six figure salary. Mainly because I'd be surprised if the same job here is paying six figures.

Out of curiosity, I ran that site against a move from Cardiff to London - clicky.
Might help put Perth in perspective?

Aye, I'd be interested to hear from Matt and Blue as I know that both have lived/are living out there for a while.

Go for it.

The money you've been offered is great for Oz, and with exchange rates at the moment and forecast for the future you could easily send a good deal of money back to the UK if you wanted to.

Shopping costs are very comparable. Yes you'll pay more for some stuff but others will be cheaper. Location wise you'll be out in the sticks, and even Perth counts the same in many respects, so you'll possibly pay more because of that too, but even then you'll be way ahead because of much lower housing costs etc. Telecoms are the biggest rort (rip-off) you'll probably notice, but fuel costs more than make up for that.

I could write reams but don't have internet at home at the moment, only when I'm on the train or visiting friends etc. If you've got any specific questions then I'll be glad to answer, just send a PM.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

So when do you get here?

Yeah, the cost of living here is more, but on 160k you won't be struggling in the least. I won't go into the in's and out's of my earnings and bills here but feel free to PM me if you do want financial information.

Something to consider: it sounds like a fly-in fly-out job, when I've looked into similar things in the past it's been 5x10 or 12 hour days for 3 weeks on 2 weeks off or similar, it would be worth clarifying that before you accept. You don't want to run yourself into the ground and people don't just dish out 160k jobs externally for nothing.

Essentially though, just go for it, the absolutely worst case scenario is that you hate it and get a flight home, yeah you might have missed out on a some stuff at home while you're gone, but if you don't try, you'll never know.

I can say though, that moving here was the best decision of my life.

PS As Matt said, feel free to drop me a PM with any questions.

Well paid job for me and the missus with an Aussie passport at the end of it? I'd rip his arm off!
