I'm sick of pandering to delusion. Faith and religion should be abolished, it's about time we embraced evolution.

What stops me from believing both in a deity and in evolution?
Why can I not have the belief that evolution is a row of dominos and a deity set it all off?

I still think my idea is better. Eg meeting starts at 0900. Prayers start at 0845 and anyone who wishes to attend may feel free to do so. Everyone who is then in that room at 0900 doesn't have to be miffed at anything.

Can I turn up at 8:30 and do a little Hindu / Pagan / Satanist thing and then leave for 15 minutes? And the Muslims can turn up at 8:15, and the Jews at 8:00 and the Jedi at 7:45 and the . . .

And then pass round a basket in the break to collect money for the church of scientology?

That's the one I was trying to think of. Everyone loves Katie so I'm sure it's the best option :D

See back in the day this would be a complete non issue.
But seeing as this is now a multicultural country, we can't really have a goverment body following one religion in an official capacity.
Could the religious councilers pray in a different room first, or even the same room before everyone else comes in for the meeting?
I'm all for people having their faith, but in this case their job doesn't revolve around that faith.

I think the real issue he is that because prayers are on the agenda, everyone has to be present and participate, which is wrong. Take it off the agenda, and those who want to pray can do so without those who which not to being present. It's really not an issue if you do it that way.

The problem is being 'multicultural', we have sections of the population with mutually exclusive beliefs. We have people who fervently believe religion should be part of our 'official culture', and people who fervently believe it shouldn't. Then you have subsets of religious people who feel their religion is the 'proper' one and all the others are bunk.

Regardless of which option you choose, you're just going to piss off everyone who isn't in favour of that particular option. In trying to be fair, you please hardly anyone. I don't really care which option gets picked, but I think the fighting about it (as in this case) is more divisive and damaging to us as a society than just picking one and sticking to it.

+1 (except, apparently, for certain former archbishops and government ministers).

God should make some sort of cameo appearance... ;)

I sincerely hope they're not spending public money on the appeal.

Quote:
Imran Khan, a Muslim and Conservative councillor on Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, welcomed the judgement, saying religion "had no place" in politics.

He said the ruling was a "victory for everyone who believes that democracy and religious freedom is the cornerstone of Western free society".

Amen to that.
