I didn't realise you are not of sound mind. You have issues and you need to seek help.

Because I think your point of view is selfish, I must be insane? Yeah. That's logical.

I didn't see your post JJ before I quoted Adam.
I don't think I've ever seen you quite as worked up as you are right now. You okay?

No, he doesn't need help, Veato.
You don't just automatically appear with a baby, do you? It's a personal thing, something that both you and your partner need to consider.
And if you can't afford to raise it, then why have it in the first place? All a child is (to most people anyway) is a drain on money.
Why don't you just do the typical chav thing and fiddle child benefits so you can?
(PS. Don't gang up on people like that please. It's not nice at all. What is this forum? Communist? Freedom to voice your opinions not allowed any more?)

No because you liken a human child to a cat and openly admit to crying more over the death of a cat than another person. If you think I'm selfish for wanting the right to attend a scan to make sure my baby-to-be is ok then frankly you're fvcking nuts. I really am not saying any more on the subject. Fill the thread with whatever cr*p you want.

I can afford to raise it and I dont want or need benefits. What I want is the right to attend a scan to make sure the baby is alive and ok, which Dads dont currently have. I have the right to voice my opinion too.

OK let's forget my feelings for the cat which was something of a side issue, and concentrate on that statement which was my primary point... Of course it would be lovely to attend to attend the scan, but a rite enshrined in law? FFS get real! All you're talking about is holding your wife's hand.

You are obviously set in your beliefs just as I am mine. Lets agree to disagree.

Let me make one thing clear; when my ex thought she was pregnant I was going to pull every string I could to make sure I could be with her through the whole thing. I just think it's nuts to think it should be a legal requirement for a company to suffer because of an employees personal choice. Sickness is unavoidable. An appointment for a scan is simply not the same on any scale.

OK, he didn't get fired, but a disciplinary is a pretty big deal. If there was more of a guarantee that the father could take part in things like this, but time off had to be paid in holiday, or even unpaid, that would probably be fine. The fact that a manager who is so up themselves they think it's amusing to say no, really isn't fair IMO. Were we busy on the day I mentioned? Well I remember him being the third guy on the department, most of the time there is only two, it was OAP day, and not too many OAP's want to buy a tonne of bricks and cement when they browse... Hypothetically, should someone who's spent the weekend out in the rain, fishing, playing football, whatever, and gets flu-like symptoms be made to work? They brought it upon themselves. If you were going to find the results of something possibly life changing (possible chance of cancer or similar), would you not want someone there? If someone was close to you, would you not want them there? Life ain't fair and it ain't compassionate, people are more interested in what's fair for them than for someone else's happiness and well being.

In the army, sun-burn is a disciplinary offence - at least it was my dad was serving. If you're sick, you're sick. You can't work. The question is, should you be paid? I've long held that dangerous sports, which is most of them, should require health insurance. At my last company, they gave full pay for sick leave unless it was sporting related. That got statutory, which is not much more than the dole. Yes I'd like them there, and I'd hope that a compassionate employer would make allowances. I totally do not believe it should be the law though. Employers vary in the care they show their employees. Some are very generous, and that's great. The law is not there to ensure that people are generous. It's there to defend far more basic principles. And that's my point. Just because someone is generous to one person, does not mean there should be a law demanding they are generous to everyone. It may be unfair, but just because women are entitled to certain things when they're pregnant does not mean men should be too. Perhaps it would be fairer if no one got any consideration.
