One of the things really bugs me is when that book’s title is misquoted like this. It was introduced to me using the word “message” instead of “massage” and I wondered why. I dawned on me that it was, infact, some kind of mass folk memory, and people want to see the words “message” because it fits with their preconceptions of the book. http://www.amazon.co.uk/medium-massage- ... 527&sr=8-3Back on topic - I am keen to see this film, but I am hoping that it’s done well and not cocked up. The trailer has not instilled me with hope. I want shark-shaped submarines and ship wrecks!

What is interesting is that the character previously identified as Red Rackham is, intact, Mr Saccharine (as I first thought). The twist here is that he’s apparently some kind of descendent of Red Rackham and has a far more sinister role that he does in the book.

Somewhat concerned by the dangling from the motorbike handlebars bit. Ho hum. The ships in battle looks good. BTW, this is the story that introduces Professor Calculus - intact with the three stories they are condensing, they could assemble the entire principle cast. However, it seems that the whole Red Rackham’s Treasure adventure is not being included, so we’re not going to get Calculus’ introduction and shark submarine. It’s October. Not long to go now - best crack open Tintin in The Land of the Soviets and work my way through the whole set before the film appears.

I really like the visual look of it, from that short clip. Wait and see, as usual, wait and see.

I’ve seen it - I liked the film. There’s a lot to say about it, and I may have to do a second sitting to catch all the small references and subtleties.
Thing is, if I sat and jotted down my thoughts now, I’d be here all day. Some thoughts are good, some are bad, btw.. I have a talk to deliver on Thursday am, and apart from bricking myself over it, I’ve got to finish my script and presentation materials.
In a nutshell, though. There were elements that were there to cement the link with a certain Jones boy. It felt like reading three books where the pages were out of sequence, however the story held up well. Even incidental characters had the same level of attention lavished on them as the main ones did - it looked like they had all been created by the same person, and were recognisable as Hergé characters.

I just saw this film. It's not nearly as bad as what I was led to believe.

I saw it at the cinema. I thought they tried to cram too many stories into one film. It was enjoyable, just a little too busy.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Too much Spielberg, not enough Hergé, I thought. They crammed in far too much, and also created a problem of how to introduce Calculus who features in both of the other two double album stories. In the books, Calculus uses a prototype of his Shark submarine to explore the Unicorn wreck in Red Rackham's Treasure. At the end of the book, Tintin and Haddock discover the treasure in Marlinspike Hall, but cannot afford to buy the mansion. Calculus has sold his submarine invention, and has oodles of cash. Because his tests on the treasure hunt we successful, he buys Marlinspike Hall for Haddock. From then on, the stories are based more in Marlinspike. So the next storie has to, somehow, run this story thread, and then get on with either going to the Moon or mucking around in Southern America.
