Hi,

Wasn't sure which category to put this under, as it's a network device, accessed by both Windows PCs, Macs and wireless gadgets, (phones, tablet's etc).

OK, so I've got an issue with one of my NAS Drives. I've got two NAS drives, (both WD Mybook Live) one being 2TB and the other is the 3TB model.

The 2TB drive keeps disconnecting itself from the network and then reconnecting itself of it's own accord.

I've tried swapping: The network switch, the network lead and the PSU, and I've tried accessing the drive, (playing videos) from the main PC, my phone, a Samsing tablet and a WD TV Live box, and the video is interrupted on all of the devices.

I'm thinking that the drive is on it's way out, as I can still ping the device when the WD Quick View and Windows Explorer tell me it's disconnected. I have also updated the firmware on both drives, to no avail.

They both have static IP address, (192.,168.1.8 and 9 respectively) and I am at a loss as to what to try next.

I'm going to source a replacement drive to back everything onto, and I'll probably have to look at a warranty repair, unless anyone has any ideas...

Thanks in advance.

:(

Update: Interesting... I'm typing this on the Samsung tablet that K bought yesterday. The tablet which has the same IP address as the drive which is not playing nice.

I've set the tab with a static address... let's see if that helps.

Final update: it's been working for a while now and I'm happy that the issue has been resolved.

Nothing to see here folks... move along!

I'd check to make sure you don't have any sort of IP conflict between the problem drive and any other device connecting to the same network.

I had a similar issue with my iPhone and laptop conflicting IP addresses on the router. Complete PITA.

Bratty is a cautionary tale for what happens to you when you start seeing conspiracy theories everywhere.
Just because he thinks they are out to get him, does not mean that they are not out to get him.

Well I know I'm out to get him. The leaflet that came with my iPhone told me to.
Once I'd decoded it, of course. They're right clever, that Illuminati.
