My Sky digibox is on its last legs, it locks up several times a day and has to be switched off at the mains. To be fair it is getting on a bit, and I was thinking about getting Sky+.

Due to the 'current economic climate', I decided not bother shelling out over £100 for Sky+, and I didn't fancy the minimum 65 quid callout charge for an engineer to fettle by old box.

So, I thought, just cancel Sky, we have freeview.

Anyhoo, I rang them up to cancel it, and was asked why, so I outlined the above. The young lady politely asked me to hold, while she went to find out if she could do something about the callout charge.

She came back and offered me Sky+ for £29, with a promise to replace the LNB too.

I know people have pulled the old 'threaten to cancel and get freebies' trick, but this came as a nice surprise. :)

sky + is free atm :), they are trying to push their HD service as much as possible, and sky+ means you keep a contract as the recording wont work otherwise :)

On this subject.

My Sky+ bos seems to freeze. Then you can't do sh!t with it, until it reboots itself. Even after it reboots, it takes about 5 mins before you can actually turn it back on.

Is this the sort of problem you've been having.

I've been blaming it on the weather, but it happened last Thursday, on a lovely sunny evening, while recording Big Bang Theory it froze, and rebooted. Loosing my episode. Thanks a bunch.

So should I call Sky about it? I know I should, but I don't particularry want to go through 6 million Sky+ procedures, with some indian guy who keeps calling me Miss Kelsey.

For existing customers, Sky+ is £49 plus £60 installation. Reduced from £99 + installation!! What a bargain, eh?

It is a source of annoyance that they offer free stuff to new customers, yet long standing customers get stiffed if they want to upgrade. That is why the £29 was such a pleasant surprise.

Mine was the old digibox but, yes, you have to switch it off at the mains, switch it on, wait a few minutes for it to gather it's senses, then you can try and guess what happened in the closing minutes of the film you just missed.

The slightest sniff of rain pretty much guaranteed a lock-up too.

Give them a ring, I didn't get shunted through to Mumbai, I spoke to a lovely lady with soft Scottish accent.

Might have been a call centre from my old local town. Used to be shipyards, now it's call centres. :)

You can always try this, saves call out fees

Quote:
How to reset your Sky+ Box

Had a problem with my Sky+ box the other day, was seeing jerky on the screen so decided to do a full system reset. This can be accessed from the Sky Engineers Menu by the following

Press “SERVICES” on your Sky Plus Remote

Select Option 4

Next press 0, 1 and SELECT – you should now see the engineer’s menu.

Choose option 8, ‘Full System Reset’. The box will now take a few minutes to reset itself.

BE WARNED: This will clear your HD and thus wipe all your recorded programs!!

This solution has also been known to resolve pausing and recording issues. Enjoy!

Yeah. I'm yet to watch though all the Despy Housewifes this season. So that isn't going to happen until I am finished watching them, Lol
