The BBC Micro's little brother is 30. Here's an El Reg article about it.

Yeah, I read that last week.

UI had an Electron. I bought it from my local electrical discount store, they had a bunch of then going for 40 quid at the end of the 80s. It was good retro fun, but I was on an Amiga then. I only bought it for the novelty value. I had used a BBC Model B at a local hospital, when I was on placement from college.

Mine is still working. I bought it in about 1985 as an upgrade from my Sharp, and it remained my primary computer until I got a 8088 PC clone with a floppy in about 1996.

The Electron was £30 from Bull Electrical, and the PC was from a skip. They both used a CUB 8 colour monitor I think I acquired from a school.

My original Electron kept breaking, so I got a refund and by then, I saved the difference for a BBC micro :-)

The Electron I have now was given to me by a e turner at University who had heard that I knew what Acorn computers were. He didn't want it any more. It has the Plus 1 and Plus 3 add ons - so it has the cartridge slots, and a disk drive. And, yes, it still works. In fact, it went to my wife's school for an end of term Code Club session where we typed in some BASC and then played games.
