The fact is that they are getting you to pay the higher rate for chicken and filling it with water which costs pennies. This is passing off. If a publican did it he would get fined and his stock would be destroyed, leaving him with the tax bill to pay still.

Even my maths is better than that, and I'm barely capable of counting.

Whatever the maths, buying food from a supermarket is becoming ostensibly more of a lottery with every passing year. Even if it's a vegetable/fruit and you know what's supposed to be in it, you're still trusting the supermarket as to it's origins.

Can't wait to get back to Italy where everything is locally produced (including the wine) and with my girlfriend being somewhere between vegetarian and vegan I'm looking forward to a healthier winter this year.

It states clearly (in type 1 font!) that there is added water and if you want you to go ahead and buy it on that basis then thats your choice - so long as the publican in your example above states that his beer is watered down (and so probably cheaper) then he has broken no laws

The fact that the ingredients include water as to why trading standards cannot do anything. That was also in the article. The fact that it is legal does not mean that it is right.

If you want cheap frozen chicken then you have to accept it'll be bulked up somehow.

I've only ever done it with a chicken so far, but if required I wouldn't have any problems doing it with other animals at all.
