Oh dear - I now have visions of spending the rest of my life perfecting a Model B emulator for the Model B, with tape interface and possibly ROM reader for all my old games...

I'd be all over that like a pig on stink if it wasnt for missing the network port Might look into alternative network solutions

It's the cut-down super low power version, primarily for battery or solar projects that can't use wires. The original model B has a network port, and is a better solution for a wired project.

True, but a network port would be brilliant for a home automation system that you could power by batteries

I don't really see the point of battery powering something that's already got an ethernet cable running to it. You could PoE to keep the wiring to a minimum - even crudely just by sticking 5v on a spare pair.

As mentioned in my FPotD, I have to re-visit Linux and C++ so I have installed a copy of Arch Linux on the Pi, (using the XFCEdesktop environment) and am typing this using the MIdori browser... These may not be the quickest computers in the world, but for £25 or so, you really can't complain. Anyway, back to work!

Have you done this yet? Can you provide feedback about HD content playback? Mark

Seriously considering getting a Pi 2. The Original Pi was just a little bit under specced for some of the things I want to do, but the Pi 2 looks like it will do them all with ease.

Sorry I've not been on here in a while, work commitments I did, I used OpenElec in the end as it was lighter than XBMC It handles 720p fine on CPU decoding, should really get an mpeg licence though for anything better
