On thursday I'm going to be spending a week on a boat on the Rhine and Moselle and have just found out that there is no internet access on board.

Therefore a question probably for big_D: Whats the best source of information for public WiFi access in Germany?

I had a quick search on Google but the results are limited once you get away from the major cities or hotel chains. I need to find the German equivalent of being to go into the local café or pub and getting on line with a provider like The Cloud.

Will I need to sign up for any public services? Based on a recent experience in Italy trying to access one of these and register on a mobile phone was less than optimal.

The area I'm covering is going to be Köln - Koblenz on the Rhine and Koblenz - Trier on the Moselle.

I'm not desperate for internet access but if I know of a couple of places when I'll be able to get it during the week that will do me.

Any help gratefully received.

Deutsche Telekom has a wifi hot spot service. I've no idea how good it is, I've never needed it.

4.95€ a day or 19.95€ for a week pass.

You will see a magenta "T" (Telekom / T-Mobile colour) logo in certain locations.

Payment is by credit card, paypal or clicktobuy.

Having had a proper look at the link big_D supplied the Telekom option looks like the one to go for provided that there is sufficient coverage in the area where I am travelling. Is there anywhere that shows a map of the Telekom WiFi hotspots? I'd hate to spend €20 on access only to find that there's virtually no coverage outside of Koblenz (where there appears to be a decent number of other public WiFi points).
