TfL’s corporate font, Johnston, gets an update as it reaches 100 years of age. They are returning to the wider proportions of the original, and returning some lost features to the latest cut. https://vimeo.com/169691159

Mind you, someone from Monotype should not be calling this: # “hashtag”.

*checks dictionary definition of "awesome"... Nope. Mind you, I only managed about half of it. The second half might be full of tits and explosions, but I have my doubts.

If the video was intended only for viewing by other typographers etc then fair enough but that's not the impression I got. Tailor the message to the audience. If they'd called it an octothorpe they would had to explain but pretty much everyone knows what a hashtag means.

Never really warmed to Johnston as a font, but it has served an important function and has good clarity for signage use. I do like the new thinner weights though, very classy. Oh, and thanks for this definition of awesomeness...

If they had just called it a hash, it would be OK. A hash tag is a tag with a hash charcater at the start. I have to tell kids in code club that, but they seem to like “octothorp” more, and are using it now. Just waiting for the inevitable “octothorptag”...

Of course they prefer the word octothorp, as it sounds like a super villain name! When I was learning programming it was called a hash.
