French media to stop publishing photos and names of terrorists | Media | The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/ ... terrorists

I've always wondered would this move make any difference; I'll be keeping an eye on it.

I certainly think it should be tried, even just as an experiment (every mentally disturbed loner in the world seems to feed off each other right now). Though it could massively backfire too - social media d1ckheads will go all out claiming they know who carried out attacks, defeating the purpose and possibly leading to all sorts of violent behaviour. And apparently they won't have to look too far to get the names 'legitimately' anyway!

What do you think?

I can see no way in which it would actually help in any practical way, so no.

If they have been arrested / killed, then no, no pictures, if they are still at large, then yes.

I'm fairly sure I'd forget both within half an hour of hearing/seeing them.

Hmm. The problem here being that you could create a feeling of a “badge of honour” if you are on the list. Remember that ASBOs were seen as such in certain groups of society. So called “naming and shaming” only works if the person targeted feels that they have done something to be ashamed of in the first place.

The modus operandi of terrorists appears to be outside that kind of thinking, so we’ll be probably encouraging even more it if we did.
