If you poop in sea water they are more likely to float because at 1.03kg/l salt water has a higher density than fresh water at 1.00kg/l. However, taking a poop at 40m means that any gas pockets would be considerably compressed therefore reducing buoyancy and increasing the chances of sinking.

Why are we talking about poos? I really shouldn't have read this, not after gaining a slight appitie, after all I've eaten and drank over the past 2 weeks is some coffee and the odd biscuit, can't stomach anything else. Then this.
