2 miles off for me, not as bad as those pop-ups though, they think I'm in Milton Keynes!

Above the +/- slider thing in the top left, there's a new button.
This will then try to locate you in Google Maps, if you give Firefox permission to share your location.

Hmm, Firefox 3.0 is as high as I can go.
:?

How so CC?

Anyway, it couldn't find me. According to Google I'm somewhere on the Welsh border so I think I should be safe from the Black Stealth Helicopter brigade for a little longer.

Ah, it seems that I was on 3.0.x and I needed to be at 3.0.y before it offered me the update to 3.5.

(I don't use Firefox much as I prefer Safari and Opera)

I tried in in FF 3.5 with NoScript and the infop bar at the top said "Google maps wants permission to find your location. Allow / Deny (tick) Remember for this site (tick)"

Something similar in Chrome also. "Allow Chrome to use Google Gears to find your location?"

The button is not visible in IE8.

I allowed Chrome, It's off by a mile... 8-)

Just tried it at home. At work, it says North American continent, doesn't get any more accurate than that.

At home, it has narrowed it down to about 400 square miles in North Germany, but doesn't put a place marker to make it any more accurate.

So, with whom does Google share this information?

I admit to chickening out.
