If you're using an ad blocker, why not just set it do ignore anything from that server?

Much like the earlier poster, you unfortunately have this the wrong way round. I (or anyone else) should not have to do something to stop you (or anyone else) doing something impolite. That's just not the way civilised human being act.

In which case no-one on this forum should ever remote-link an image without every other users's permission. And yet there are so many threads where exactly that happens, without prior warning I might add.

All this information is freely available as JJ says, there's nothing dodgy involved in collecting it.

I am hereby requesting that all users do not remote link images, it's rude and my information gets sent to webservers I don't trust.

Can anyone say 'unrealistic'? :geek:

I don't know why it happens. Perhaps his internet is flakey and he clicks the submit button twice by accident?

I have a problem with my OS at the moment and it makes many of my clicks double clicks. End result it minimises windows when I click on them to bring them to the front and double posts. I find many times I am back in repost mode after a post. Sorry to all.

So what is my IP then? You don't have access to it, only people/sites I have chosen to give it to, same as other personal data
Essentially you are doing the same by now changing your sig to an image, your being totally hypocritical kicking off about no one hot linking an image and then doing it yourself in your sig. Regardless of sarcasm or not it's a disrespectful way to deal with a polite request to change it.

There may be, however imgshack and other image hosting sites I trust to use the data provided to them in a reasonable way, Danasoft however are obnoxious and obtuse in the collection of this data. I know on x404 and other forums the only people that can see my IP are the mods/admin. Those are by nature people I trust.

If I cared enough I would make my own data mining tool on my server and set it up to get your IP, although seeing as I know you are called <removed at request, is 'please' such a hard word to type?>, have personal contact details including mobile number, university course details and more (easily enough to pass myself off as you should I wish to)

<removed at request, is 'please' such a hard word to type?>

Lovely photo btw

Point is there is no reason to be so obnoxious and pompous over a reasonable request which forces me to do something I don't agree with, many other forums ban people for using them or remove privileges for doing so.

I'm now going to exercise my rights under Copyright and ask you to take that photo down.

And congratulations, you can use Facebook. You should get a medal, or something. The key difference is of course, misuse of my person details in the way that you describe would land you behind bars.

erm... those IP/browser sigs have been around on dennis for years and have never caused any trouble, making a mountain out of a molehill springs to mind.

And now posting personal images against people's will, geting nasty.

Linux has decided to use that .sig. Essentially, he's decided to send us to Danasoft, without asking for our permission. Now, he's been specifically asked to stop doing so. Whether people's reasons for asking are technically consistent and valid is irrelevant.

You're sending me to idisk.mac.com without my consent.

If I asked you to stop, I suspect you'd think I was being an bloody-minded fool. I don't see any difference.

The Danasoft signature is designed to educate people. Many people think they're anonymous. Finding out that they're not may be a shock to some people, but surely it's better not to be so ignorant?

All YOU have to do is change YOUR settings. It's not my problem

Can't take your own advice? In case you need a recap, here it is paraphrased the best I can:

Oh, and I'm not going to respond to that pseudo threatening pm you sent me, you can ask as many times as you want, until you use the magic word I won't. If needs be I will respect the copyright claim however as I am using it in a derivative of the original subject situation in a parody of hypocritical views.

I believe misuse of ANY personal details regardless of how they are gathered is against the law, of course studying your course you should know the principles of the DPA

JJ, it may be, however sending someone to the Apple/an image hosting site is different to a site that has an existence solely around data mining
http://www.danasoft.com/privacy.php

It's all there that they collect the data, regardless of if you gibe them explicit permission or not.

It may be designed to scare but there are less obnoxious ways of doing it such as
http://www.ipchicken.com/
or running a trace route.

By posting that information here you have broken Facebook's terms of use. If you're not going to play ball I am going to PM the board administrator, end of.

IP information is not protected in the same way as personal information.

I have removed the offending article and replaced with a derivative piece of work which is covered by the copyright law as it contains new content and material

I have not given permission for a derivative work - all rights reserved - so no, it's not covered.

Well unless you took that photograph you are not first author, so don't own the copyright so not your claim to make

As said before this can go away very easily if you use the magic word

Okay. Will you two please try and come to some kind of amicable solution?

I think I'll lock this topic. If you want to argue about it, you know where I am.
