Typical Sky bluster, isn't it?

Tried watching it last night and, as i suspected, it doesn't work for me... Oh, well, no big loss.

There are two lenses. One is a yellow colour - that goes over your left eye. The other lens is a very dark blue, and it covers your right. The blue lens is so dark, it’s almost like closing one eye. It made my right eye feel funny after a while.

This system was not as good as the red/blue system we are more familiar with. The problem with red/blue is that you lose a lot of colour detail. These orange/blue lenses do keep some colour, but they really make your eyes work at times to resolve the 3D.

I don't know if you are trying to explain how it works to me specifically, or just being helpful, but the old red/blue ones didn't work for me either, due to my "dodgy" left eye.

No - just my general reaction to it. I actually found it worse than the usual red/blue combo.

I also found the yellow/blue system much worse than red/green. I appreciate that it may be a better combination for colour film(and if it is it's only a very slight improvement) but the fact that the blue was so dark made my eye ache after a while too. I watched Flesh For Frankenstein and found that the 3D picture was quite dark and there was too much yellow/blue ghosting. I kept raising the glasses briefly to see what was going on and then went back to trying to get the 3D to work.

I could sometimes see some depth between, say, the actors and the background but the 3D didn't work for me in terms of objects coming 'out' of the screen and this was very much a film for poking bits of bodies in your face! I wonder how many people persevered to the end of this dull and poorly-acted film anyway. I'll give Friday 13th 3D a go tomorrow and see if that's any better.

Overall I found the whole thing a bit disappointing.

The thing with "thing coming out of the screen" for 3D is that the screen really needs to take up your entire peripheral vision for that to happen.

The reason is that for something to look like it is 1 foot in front of your eyes when the screen is say 10 feet away from you then the screen width would have to be 9 times the distance between your eyes.

And that's only for a single point. If you're trying to make a football come out of the screen and look life size then you'd need a screen 5 feet wide and it would take up the entire width of the screen.

With IMAX cinemas the effect is much better. I went to see Harry Potter at an IMAX cinema and there were points where I was tempted to reach out and grab stuff that was right in front of my nose!
