I bought a pair of walking boots for £35 from Tog24, I spent 4 years walking all over northern Montana in them, up and down mountains, and then when I got back to the UK I walked all over the West Country and quite a lot of Wales in them. Then I wore them every day at work for 6 years, I had to shoe-goo the sole after 11 years of use and finally had to replace them last year when the sole cracked and they weren't water tight anymore

I'm lucky if a pair of shoes lasts a year, depending on how much walking I do. I guess is about 500 miles is a good life for normal shoes or trainers, 2500 for thick soled boots.

I just threw out some Karrimor trainers that only lasted 7 months. Steer clear.

I guess I do around 1,000KM a year in my shoes - walking around the office, walking between buildings, shopping and going for long walks with the dog.

I've got size 45/46 feet and wide, so it isn't always easy getting shoes either.

Well, I went back to the shop with the shoes in the same box (with all the tissue and everything). I even had the same bag and I made sure I had the receipt.

I got into town... and the shop closed down about 3 weeks ago :(

I'll have to email Vans then or O'Neill or something.

I'd say about six months of daily use is what I've come to expect from the Hi-Tecs I buy.
My hiking boots are twelve years old, but obviously they don't get daily use any more.

I got 3 years out of my Merrell low-cut-walking-shoe-boot-things including 2 years daily walking to/from uni (~10 miles round-trip on tarmac) before the soles were flattened to nothingness, but their replacements (North Face this time, I think) are seemingly going to last as long or longer.. I gave my black smart shoes into the cobbler's on Saturday for new heel-thingies, and new soles (but only because the previous replacement soles were stuck on really badly). My brown smart shoes are still going very strong, and I think have just had one new set of heels.

Still really need to find a good day-to-day casual shoe, though. Or two perhaps. (8-p)

I had a pair of Vans that I wore everyday and they lasted me a year. Bought another pair in July, now the top is coming apart from the bottom...

I've decided it's time to give up on shoes, I'm going to buy a nice pair of sturdy boots for general purpose, then have my nice walking boots for, well, walking...

Well, I've emailed Vans.

Apparently O'Neill went into administration so I'm not going to get anything from them I don't think.

I'll see what happens.
