OK, my iPod Touch seems to be able to pinpoint my location without an active internet connection. How is it doing this?

Doesn't it have GPS?

As long as the map images are still in the memory it should be able to display where you are. However, you won't be able to see a different part of the map.

That would make sense, didn't realise the Touch had GPS too. :)

Triangulation with what though? There were no wifi networks in range, and since it doesn't have the ability to connect to 'phone networks... :?

if you've been in range of a wireless network recently then it'll work it out from there. There may also be networks with hifdden SSID's that it's picking up from.

It could also be black magic

Steve Jobs is omnipresent, so he knows where all the iPhones and iPod Touches are, all the time.
