I've never heard of this cartoon.
Couple that with your reaction, Paul, and I'm just not interested.

I don't get it.

Who are they aiming it at?

The only people who will know what it is are people between the ages of about 25 and 30 and something tells me that these people aren't going to be interested in watching a remake of it at the cinema... or anywhere for that matter.

Captain Planet was fun, when I was a child. Like Garfield, the Chipmunks and other cartoon->real life conversions, this is something that should stay in the past.

For those who never watched the cartoon, it's about a group of teen "eco-warriors" who have five magic rings. They can use them to control the elements but if they combine the powers, you get a superhero. These eco-warriors go round and try and fend off super villains who want to pollute the Earth. At the time, it was uber-cool. Now it just seems like some kind of pushy kids show.

Captain Planet was lame.

See?

When we had it on in Scotland, it was dubbed into Gaelic, but sadly I can't find that on YouTube.

Weebl's Stuff has already done a remake (2 of them in fact):
Captain Planet Goes to Copenhagen
Captain Planet: Rampage

I do remember the original cartoons.... and have no desire to see it again and especially not remade for the cinema.

I just asked my housemate about this and his reaction was pretty much what you lot have said.
Also, he told me there was one episode set in Belfast/Northern Ireland.
It's probably on YouTube, and I probably don't want to see it, so I'll not be first in the queue to search for it.

Enjoy... although I'm not sure if they're in Belfast or Kingston, Jamaica given the accents?!

Lol I liked Captain Planet as a child; I wouldn't watch it now though, can they do a Defenders of the Earth film instead? ;)
