I'm surprised they didn't go all-out patriotic and give Lincoln the awards it was nominated for in all the categories.

Was it the best film though? Not seen any of the nominated films so can't comment.

Oh dear, you seem to be under the illusion that it's always the best in each category that gets the win.
That's not really how the Oscars works. (8+)

Was this Tarantino's first win at one of these?

'Best' is a matter of taste and opinion anyway. Quentin Tarantino is a fantastic writer and he's now won 2 Oscars so they must be doing something right.

No his 2nd. The other was Pulp Fiction.

I didn't watch the Oscars (plus I haven't seen any of the nominated films) but I see Seth McFarlane's linking pieces have caused a few mutterings. This did make me smile though:

Quote:
He followed it up with another Tarantino aimed jibe - the writer/director won the award for Best Screenplay on the night.
Talking about the film's controversial overuse of the n-word, Seth drew silence from the crowd when he joked that the screenplay was 'loosely based on Mel Gibson's voicemails.'
:)

I think that it was only available to watch on Sky. So most would not be able to see it.

I looked for a broadcast of it and only Sky Movies seemed to have it.

I think that the BBC will be doing an edited version like they did last year, IIRC.

Apparently it's not just Seth McFarlane causing outrage...

The Onion apologizes after it posts vulgar tweet about Quvenzhane Wallis

The Onion's apology...
http://www.theonion.com/articles/the-on ... zes,31434/

OK, it's a satire website, but really... calling a 9-year old that is a disgrace. Hope they sack whoever was in charge of tweeting that night.

They did a half hour report this morning on BBC News - like the review shows Kermode does on a Friday, him and journo discussing stuff sat on stools. Dunno if they're going to screen the whole thing at any point. I'd imagine if you don't show it pretty quickly after the event the viewing figured would be pretty disappointing.

It doesn't fit with The Onion's style of satire and does nothing to build their image, but since when is honesty a disgrace?

Or are you one of those people that believe everyone should coo whenever a kid vomits?

I think it's one of these 'treating Twitter like a real conversation' incidents - forgetting your group of 'friends' aren't strictly that. Either way, it's unlikely that kid doesn't know about this now (with whatever consequences), but also that her stock has never been higher... who even knew she was in the competition? :o
